Environmental education is actually considered one of the main tools to spread the knowledge and the care for environment among all citizens, both children, young and adult people.
The Environmental Education Unit of ISPRA – Higher Institute for Environmental Protection and Research  promotes and participates to projects of environmental education programmes for sustainable development at the national and international level; it's partner of the National Committee for the UN Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014) coordinated by Italian National Commission UNESCO, and it is Technical Secretary of the Working Group for  Education Oriented to Sustainability (EOS).
Other activities of the Environmental Education Unit include the elaboration of educational materials in the different areas of the environmental protection, and the promotion of activities for the environmental education, in cooperation with the technical Units of  ISPRA and with the ARPA/APPA of the Agencies' System.
